NZ Whisky Collection Otago Commemorative Casks 30 Years

Club Whisky

The NZ Whisky Collection Otago Commemorative Casks 30 Years is a rare and reverent dram—distilled in 1987 at the historic Willowbank Distillery in Dunedin and matured for three decades in American oak ex-bourbon casks. Bottled at 51.1% ABV, it marks New Zealand’s entry into the elite club of nations releasing 30-year-old single malts, joining Scotland, Ireland, and Japan. The whisky opens with golden fruit and apricot, evolving into grassy oak and a silky malt finish that speaks of patience, place, and pedigree. Tasting it at the Oamaru Cellar Door alongside the Oamaruvian DoubleWood and Revolution was a masterclass in contrast. Where the DoubleWood was rich and brooding, and the Revolution fiery and theatrical, the Otago 30 was graceful and contemplative. It felt like sipping history—each drop a quiet echo of New Zealand’s whisky journey. For the club, it was a moment of reflection: not just about flavor, but about legacy, rarity, and the quiet power of time well spent in wood.
